Starting out with a bit of a bang, Garage magazine is making headlines with its controversial "peel-away" cover. Take the time to check the site out too, it's is simple and fun, and I love the idea behind the "stops" section.

I keep leaning toward raw content, with a raw feel. In the future you will find less and less ornate design surrounding our information / content. Dasha promises to make every issue unique and non-formulaic. Thank you Dasha for rethinking content around the unexpected.

Well ok this has nothing to do with photography (i'll admit to not updating this section in some time) but it brings together fashion, business, innovation, marketing, and agency life into one succinct presentation.

The premise is simple:

No copyright laws (in fashion): allow for greater creativity, stronger innovation, and greater return. F'ing brilliant.

Greg Kadel is no stranger to fashion photography, one visit to his website gives you an idea of his breadth and scope. These photos are striking, racy, and edgy; they remind me of a more provoking spread in POP magazine last year (I'll track it down).

The soft tones within the atmosphere coupled with innocence and piety, juxtaposed with the bold/raw outfits and makeup partnered with sexuality, create a duality that is loud and rebellious, and tame and conservative all at once. Great use of lighting, color, perceptive, and fashion.

Henrik Bülow covers a wide range of styles that usually features a progressive fashion-forward aesthetic. But it was these shots of Christel that caught my eye, perhaps because they are so stark, pale, dull. I think of the future, isolation and concrete; we are all together but very alone.

While there are many photos (25) in this spread by Jill Greenberg it is the instances that only feature a single model that resonate the most with me. This idea of suspended animation, frozen; creating such contrast against the texture of the waterline and sky above. Are these people even real? I get this sense of plastic and beauty all in one composition; throwing me for a loop, I need to keep looking.

Great exploration of The RIng like photography using an old medium in new ways. Can't wait to get this going in more retail sites.

Sitting in Japan this piece would make me insist on heading over to see it live.

Akrans takes a variety of shots; some bold and striking, underscoring jagged lines amongst the human form but it's the soft, slightly blurry / mis-focused photos that suggest some other time, place, or distant memory that intrigue me the most. In this place where reality is often blurred by marketing, polarizing politics, and plastic people there is a sense of loss when I view these photos; something we will probably never get back.

While this magazine is not new, the concept appears to still be: the 'rag' is all digital that’s its only format, the contributors are in it for the passion (sans ads) and contribute because they want to. What do you get? Cutting edge articles, and photography without the bullshit.

As magazines continue to crumble until the invention of cheap color e-ink (which by then it will be interactive content anyway) it still amazes me how most "graphic" magazines can't seem to move into the digital space; relying heavily on the printed photo as the sole need to purchase the physical magazine. Good luck with that.

Often times 'innovation' is so close to you, you just need to see it. Darren may be on to something with these RAW takes from a Skype session: physical real-time filters perhaps could lift this off of the idea book and into practice.
